Indore, June 11 (NationPress) As the investigation into the gruesome murder of Raja Raghuvanshi continues, the family of Raj Kushwaha -- the purported mastermind of the crime -- has stepped forward to defend him, asserting that he is being wrongfully accused.
Raj, along with four other individuals, including Sonam Raghuvanshi (Raja's spouse), Anand Kurmi, Akash Rajput, and Vishal Singh Chauhan, was presented in a Shillong court by the Meghalaya Police after extensive questioning by the Special Investigation Team (SIT).
Raj's sister, in a conversation with IANS, emphasized that he was at home during the time the crime took place in Meghalaya, insisting that he has been unjustly implicated in the murder case.
"My brother is being falsely accused. He has committed no crime. I firmly believe he will be exonerated. He should not face punishment for something he hasn't done. A thorough investigation is essential, and my brother deserves to be freed because he is innocent," she stated.
She dismissed suggestions of a romantic involvement between Raj and Sonam, clarifying that Raj viewed her as an elder sister and referred to her as "didi (sister)."
"We only learned about this supposed relationship through news reports when chats were mentioned. We had no prior knowledge. I doubt its authenticity. Everyone is misleading. He called Sonam 'didi'. How could they be in a relationship? He is five years younger than her. Furthermore, he was home the entire time; he did not go anywhere else," she added.
Meghalaya Police apprehended Sonam Raghuvanshi after she turned herself in at the Nandganj police station in Uttar Pradesh's Ghazipur district early Monday.
Authorities allege that Sonam orchestrated her husband's murder during their honeymoon in Meghalaya by hiring contract killers.
Her surrender followed intense pressure from a multi-state investigation coordinated by police teams from Meghalaya, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh.
Investigators revealed that Call Detail Records (CDRs) between Sonam and Raj indicated frequent communication, leading them to suspect a conspiracy to eliminate Raja Raghuvanshi.
Raj's family, however, remains steadfast in asserting his innocence, calling for a fair investigation and justice in what they claim is a case of wrongful implication.
