New Delhi, March 27 (NationPress) The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has confiscated additional goods lacking the requisite ISI mark or bearing counterfeit ISI labels from warehouses of Amazon and Flipkart as part of its initiative against the sale of inferior products on e-commerce sites, as stated by the Ministry of Consumer Affairs on Thursday.

"On March 19, the BIS executed a search and seizure operation at the warehouses of Amazon Sellers Pvt Ltd, located in Mohan Cooperative Industrial Area, Delhi. The operation extended over 15 hours, leading to the confiscation of over 3,500 items, which included those devoid of an ISI mark and those with counterfeit ISI labels. The estimated total value of the seized goods, including geysers, food mixers, and other electrical appliances, is around Rs. 70 lakhs," the statement revealed.

In a separate raid conducted at Instakart Services Pvt Limited, a subsidiary of Flipkart in Trinagar, Delhi, the BIS discovered a batch of sports footwear that was set for dispatch without the essential ISI mark and manufacturing date. Approximately 590 pairs of sports footwear, valued at around Rs 6 lakh, were seized during this operation, according to the statement.

In the past month, the BIS team has undertaken similar operations across various locations in the country and seized numerous substandard products in Delhi, Gurugram, Faridabad, Lucknow, and Sriperumbudur.

These operations are part of the ongoing efforts by the Bureau of Indian Standards to ensure adherence to quality standards for consumer protection. Currently, there are 769 products mandated for compulsory certification by various regulators and central line ministries. The manufacturing, importing, distributing, selling, leasing, storing, or exhibiting these products for sale without a valid license or Certificate of Compliance from BIS is strictly prohibited.

Anyone violating the provisions of this Order faces penalties under the BIS Act, 2016, which may include imprisonment, fines, or both.
