By the End of 2025, 59 Percent of Consumers Worldwide Anticipate Acquiring GenAI Smartphones: Study

New Delhi, Dec 23 (NationPress) As smartphones remain integral to people’s daily lives, 59 percent of the respondents plan to purchase a Gen AI-enabled smartphone within the next year, with the trend being strongest in the US, followed by Germany and France, a global survey showed on Monday.
GenAI was familiar to 32 percent of the respondents in a survey conducted by Counterpoint Research across seven countries, namely USA, Canada, the UK, France, Germany, Poland, and Japan.
According to the results, GenAI awareness was highest in North America (72 percent) and lowest in Japan (7 percent).
“GenAI has rapidly gained popularity due to its accessibility and versatility across personal, professional, and educational applications. Everyday tasks, such as writing assistance, document editing, and research have been simplified, establishing it as an invaluable tool for users,” stated Tarun Pathak, Research Director at Counterpoint.
Writing assistance has surfaced as the leading use case, owing to its widespread availability, ease of use, and verifiable outputs.
Other favored applications like image generation and voice assistants are also witnessing significant uptake, noted Pathak.
While 32 percent of the respondents are aware of Generative AI, primarily through chatbots and search engines, among those familiar with it, 73 percent have utilized Gen AI on their smartphones, underscoring the device’s pivotal role in enhancing awareness and monetization opportunities.
Approximately 69 percent of users appreciate GenAI for its time-saving features, and 59 percent are open to transitioning to a GenAI smartphone by September 2025, with the US leading the trend, as per the survey.
Over two-thirds of respondents are willing to pay a premium for GenAI-enabled smartphones.
Mohit Agarwal, a research director at Counterpoint, stated that many consumers still lack awareness of the benefits of on-device GenAI.
“With only 19 percent of users in the survey inclined to pay extra for a GenAI-enabled phone, smartphone manufacturers might need to introduce low-cost entry models and explore alternative revenue channels, such as monetizing applications or offering LLM services to developers,” he mentioned.
