Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Jan 1 (NationPress) The Credit Guarantee Scheme for Exporters (CGSE) has seen a significant response, with 1,788 applications submitted totaling Rs 8,599 crore as of December 31. Of these, 716 applications have been approved, amounting to Rs 3,141 crore, indicating robust confidence among exporters and MSMEs, the government announced on Thursday.
The CGSE scheme, which is available until March 31, 2026, or until guarantees totaling up to Rs 20,000 crore are issued, is administered by the Department of Financial Services (DFS) through the National Credit Guarantee Trustee Company Limited (NCGTC).
Operational since December 1 via the Jan Samarth Portal, this initiative allows banks and financial institutions (known as Member Lending Institutions or MLIs) to offer enhanced financial support to Indian exporters amid challenging economic conditions.
This initiative aims to diversify export markets and bolster global competitiveness.
The core goal of this proactive measure is to provide credit guarantees for exporters and MSMEs, facilitating their access to additional credit. This will improve liquidity, ensure business continuity, and create avenues for market expansion, as outlined by the Finance Ministry.
The scheme anticipates providing collateral-free credit support of up to Rs 20,000 crore to both direct and indirect exporter MSMEs through qualified MLIs.
By facilitating working capital loans equivalent to up to 20 percent of current export credit/working capital limits, the scheme helps exporters and MSMEs enhance their capabilities and global competitiveness while exploring new and emerging markets.
With over 45 million individuals directly and indirectly employed in export-driven industries, MSMEs contribute nearly 45 percent of total exports.
This sustained growth in exports is crucial for maintaining India’s current account balance and overall macroeconomic stability.
