New Delhi, April 2 (NationPress) In a bid to combat the exploitation of telecom resources for cyber-crime and financial scams, the technologies implemented by the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C) have led to a remarkable 97% reduction in incoming spoofed calls, as reported by the government on Wednesday.

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has launched a secure online Digital Intelligence Platform (DIP) designed for the dissemination of information regarding the misuse of telecom resources among relevant stakeholders to avert cyber-crime and financial fraud.

Currently, approximately 560 entities, including central security agencies, 35 state police forces, telecom service providers (TSPs), and I4C, have been integrated into the DIP.

“The system tasked with identifying and blocking incoming international spoofed calls that display Indian mobile numbers was initiated on 17.10.2024, yielding significant outcomes by blocking 1.35 crore calls within the first 24 hours post-launch, once identified as spoofed,” stated Dr. Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar, Minister of State for Communications, in a written response in the Lok Sabha.

Prior to the implementation, as of March 3, the number of calls recognized as spoofed and blocked was merely 4 lakh, indicating a drastic reduction of nearly 97% in incoming spoofed calls that presented Indian CLI, he noted.

Issues related to cyber-crime fall under the purview of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) according to the allocation of business guidelines.

The MHA has set up the 14C as an affiliated office to create a framework and ecosystem for law enforcement agencies (LEAs) to tackle cyber-crimes. Additionally, the DoT is actively working to prevent the misuse of telecom resources concerning cyber frauds.

Furthermore, the minister disclosed that as of December 2024, out of 6,44,131 villages across the nation, around 6,25,853 villages are provided with mobile connectivity, including 6,18,968 villages with 4G mobile access.

The government is executing various initiatives under the Digital Bharat Nidhi to enhance internet-based telecom connectivity by installing 4G mobile towers in rural and remote areas, including the 4G saturation project aimed at ensuring coverage in every village nationwide.

As of February 2025, 2,14,323 gram panchayats have been made service-ready under the BharatNet project, as mentioned by the minister.
