Mumbai, Feb 27 (NationPress) The CEO of the Dharavi Redevelopment Project, SVR Srinivas, reiterated on Thursday that all residents who have not participated in the eligibility survey should come forward and present their documents, or they risk missing out on the benefits of redevelopment. “The Dharavi redevelopment project is India’s largest slum rehabilitation initiative. We aim to ensure that no one is left homeless. Everyone will receive a home, regardless of their eligibility status. Those deemed eligible will receive accommodations within Dharavi, while those found ineligible will be housed outside of Dharavi,” stated the DRP CEO.
During a media interaction, Srinivas explained, “No other slum rehabilitation project in India offers provisions for rehabilitating those who are ineligible. Nonetheless, the state government’s objective is to provide housing to all residents of Dharavi, which is why an exception is being made.”
He disclosed that approximately 540 acres of land has been set aside for the rehabilitation of ineligible residents outside of Dharavi, and these parcels will be transferred from the land-owning authority to the DRP. “Not a single inch of land has been allocated to any private entity,” he emphasized.
Srinivas mentioned that NMDPL will solely pay the premium to acquire the rights for constructing rehabilitation units for ineligible Dharavi residents on these lands.
He also noted that a door-to-door survey has been accomplished for over 53,000 tenements, and around 85,000 tenements have been assigned numbers.
“I humbly urge all those who have not yet engaged in the survey, despite numerous visits from survey teams, to participate in the eligibility survey. Otherwise, they will miss out on the redevelopment benefits. Our goal is to include everyone and maximize the benefits of this project,” he stressed.
When asked about the master plan, Srinivas responded, “The master plan will be finalized within a month and made public.”
Approximately 1.5 lakh tenements will be rehabilitated, ensuring improved housing, infrastructure, and economic opportunities while maintaining the dignity of the residents of Dharavi.
