New Delhi, May 26 (NationPress) The Central government conducted a review on Monday regarding significant challenges affecting mega infrastructure initiatives valued at Rs 4,904 crore in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu to expedite their implementation.
A high-level meeting of the Project Monitoring Group (PMG) under the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) was convened to tackle the crucial issues hindering these infrastructure developments.
The discussions were aimed at addressing vital inter-ministerial and inter-governmental obstacles through collaborative efforts, focusing on hastening project execution across both states.
During the meeting, a total of 18 significant challenges related to 9 infrastructure projects — with a combined value exceeding Rs 4,904 crore — were thoroughly reviewed.
One of the highlighted projects was the multi-product pipeline initiative extending from Irugur in Tamil Nadu to Devangonthi in Karnataka, with an estimated investment of Rs 1,732 crore.
This pipeline traverses several districts in Tamil Nadu, including Coimbatore, Dharmapuri, Erode, Krishnagiri, Namakkal, Salem, and Tiruppur, while also reaching into Kolar and Bengaluru Rural in Karnataka.
The project is currently facing three major land acquisition issues and one forest clearance hurdle in Tamil Nadu, which were prioritized for resolution to ensure timely progress.
Another reviewed initiative of national significance was the expansion of the 5G/4G network.
The meeting, chaired by Praveen Mahto, Principal Economic Advisor at DPIIT, included participation from senior officials from central ministries, state governments, and project developers.
Mahto underscored the government's dedication to enhancing the institutional framework for efficient project oversight and execution.
He encouraged project stakeholders to actively utilize the PMG portal for reporting and resolving implementation challenges. He reiterated that joint efforts among Central Ministries, State Authorities, and private entities are crucial for fostering effective, timely infrastructure development, contributing to the vision of a developed and digitally empowered India.
Earlier this month, DPIIT also entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP) to foster opportunities for clean energy startups in India.
