New Delhi, Dec 20 (NationPress) In a significant boost for the ‘Make in India’ initiative and the production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme, electronics exports surged by approximately 38 percent (year-on-year) during the April-November timeframe of this fiscal year (FY26), primarily driven by smartphone shipments, as reported by official statistics.
The total value of electronics exports reached $31 billion over the first eight months of this financial year. Notably, Apple contributed significantly, exporting iPhones valued at nearly $14 billion, which accounts for over 45 percent of the overall electronics export value.
A recent company report revealed that Apple India achieved record domestic sales of $9 billion in FY25, with one in every five iPhones globally produced in FY25 being manufactured or assembled in India. This manufacturing activity in India represented 12 percent of Apple’s global output value.

In 2014-15, India housed merely two mobile phone manufacturing units, which have expanded to around 300 units today. Mobile phone production has experienced a leap from Rs 18,000 crore to Rs 5.45 lakh crore, while exports have escalated from Rs 1,500 crore to nearly Rs 2 lakh crore.
Furthermore, the Modified Electronics Manufacturing Clusters (EMC 2.0) initiative, spanning ten states and projecting investments of Rs 1,46,846 crore, is expected to create approximately 1.80 lakh jobs.
Union Minister of State for Electronics and IT, Jitin Prasada, stated in a written reply in Lok Sabha this week that a total of 11 EMC and 2 Common Facility Centre (CFC) projects have been approved. These projects will cover 4,399.68 acres with a total project cost of Rs 5,226.49 crore, including Central financial assistance of Rs 2,492.74 crore.
Investment commitments amounting to Rs 1,13,000 crore have been received from 123 land allottees (manufacturers) in the sanctioned EMCs. Out of these, nine units have commenced production, having invested Rs 12,569.69 crore and generating 13,680 jobs, according to the minister.
