New Delhi, March 17 (NationPress) In an effort to enhance the adoption of Industry 4.0 and Industry 5.0 in India, Ericsson, Volvo Group, and Bharti Airtel announced a research partnership on Monday aimed at exploring the capabilities of Extended Reality (XR), Digital Twin technologies, and AI within the manufacturing sector.

According to a joint statement, this collaboration intends to leverage the strength of 5G and 5G Advanced to revolutionize industrial operations, improve workforce training, and facilitate real-time process optimization.

The research will take place at the Volvo Group Factory and the Volvo Group’s R&D Centre in Bengaluru, focusing on innovative ‘Industrial Metaverse’ applications that include human-machine interaction and collaboration.

“Utilizing 5G alongside Extended Reality applications will promote innovation and enhance collaboration among our sites and engineers in real-time, driven by connectivity and digitalization supported by advanced AI technologies,” stated Kamal Bali, President and MD of Volvo Group India.

A central aspect of this initiative is the implementation and examination of Airtel’s 5G advanced network, which will serve as the backbone for industrial XR applications.

This partnership is expected to contribute to the journey towards Industry 4.0 and beyond, while also opening avenues for new revenue streams and business models for telecommunications companies.

Sharat Sinha, Director and CEO of Airtel Business, remarked that this collaboration would redefine and transform the manufacturing industry through our high-speed, low-latency 5G network, enabling real-time XR applications that enhance productivity and efficiencies, while unlocking new revenue opportunities and accelerating the embrace of Industry 4.0 applications.

As industries increasingly pursue digital transformation, this initiative will assist networks in catering to the rising demand for XR-driven innovations, helping businesses to boost productivity and seamlessly scale operations.

“By merging our expertise in network technology with state-of-the-art XR applications, we are establishing an ecosystem that will enable industries to transform manufacturing. The research findings will play a crucial role in shaping the future of industrial digitalization, not only in India but on a global scale,” mentioned Nitin Bansal, Managing Director of Ericsson India.
