New Delhi, Nov 18 (NationPress) The Geological Survey of India (GSI) is set to host a global seminar titled 'Unearthing the Past, Shaping the Future: 175 Years of GSI' this week at the Rajasthan International Centre in Jaipur. This event marks a year-long celebration of GSI's 175 years of dedicated service to the nation, as stated in an official announcement released on Tuesday.
The international seminar, taking place on November 20–21, will gather specialists from both India and overseas to discuss current challenges, innovations in technology, and future directions within the field of geosciences.
Over two days, the technical agenda will include nine plenary lectures, 19 special lectures, and more than 300 scientific and poster presentations that span 11 thematic areas. Noteworthy scientists from the British Geological Survey (BGS), United States Geological Survey (USGS), Geoscience Australia, and prominent universities such as Lancaster University (UK), University of Michigan (USA), University of Texas (USA), and the Italian National Research Council will be participating in the seminar.
An exhibition featuring state-of-the-art technologies, geospatial tools, and innovative solutions from leading institutions and industries will accompany the seminar. Additionally, the event will witness the signing of MoUs with IIT Bombay and IIT Kharagpur, enhancing partnerships in cutting-edge geoscience research and capacity building.
G. Kishan Reddy, the Union Minister of Coal and Mines, is set to inaugurate the event. Other dignitaries, including Piyush Goyal, Secretary of the Union Ministry of Mines, and T. Ravikanth, Principal Secretary for Mines and Petroleum, will also be present at the ceremony, as per the statement.
The seminar will be spearheaded by Asit Saha, Director General of GSI, and Vijay V. Mugal, Additional Director General and head of the Western Region and chairman of the seminar, along with senior officials and distinguished geoscientists from both India and abroad.
Founded in 1851, GSI has been instrumental in geological mapping, mineral exploration, identifying critical and strategic minerals, conducting geohazard studies, and advancing geoscientific research for national growth.
