Godfrey Phillips India Q1 FY27 net profit plunges 44% to ₹189 crore
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Godfrey Phillips India Limited, one of the country's leading cigarette and tobacco manufacturers, posted a steep 44.3 per cent year-on-year decline in consolidated net profit to ₹189.39 crore for the first quarter of FY27 (ended 30 June 2026), according to its stock exchange filing. Revenue and operating profit also contracted sharply, pointing to broad-based pressure on the business.
Profit and Revenue Decline
The company's consolidated net profit had stood at ₹356.31 crore in Q1 FY26, making the year-on-year fall among the steepest in recent quarters. Revenue from operations dropped 18.9 per cent to ₹1,205.5 crore from ₹1,486.2 crore in the same period last year — a contraction of over ₹280 crore in a single quarter.
Operating Performance Under Pressure
The deterioration extended to operating metrics. Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) fell 46.3 per cent to ₹181.44 crore from ₹337.6 crore a year earlier. The EBITDA margin narrowed sharply to 15.1 per cent from 22.7 per cent, reflecting cost pressures and the impact of lower volumes on operating leverage. Notably, the EBITDA decline outpaced even the revenue fall, suggesting fixed costs did not adjust proportionally to the drop in sales.
Dividend Record Date Announced
Separately, the board of directors fixed 11 August 2026 as the record date for determining shareholders eligible to receive the final dividend for FY 2025-26. The company has not disclosed the quantum of the dividend in the filing reviewed.
Stock Movement
Ahead of the earnings release, shares of Godfrey Phillips India closed 4.03 per cent higher at ₹2,215.40 on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) on Monday, gaining ₹85.80 during the session. Over the preceding five trading days, the stock had risen 2.56 per cent, while the one-month return remained largely flat at 1.01 per cent.
