New Delhi, Nov 25 (NationPress) - The government has officially initiated Nayi Chetna 4.0, a nationwide campaign aimed at promoting gender equality and women’s empowerment, as stated in an official announcement.
This campaign strives to enhance community engagement in combating gender-based violence while fostering women’s safety, dignity, and economic independence throughout rural India, according to the Ministry of Rural Development.
Coordinated by the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Rural Livelihoods Mission, the campaign will take place over the course of a month in all states and union territories, concluding on December 23, 2025.
The focus of the campaign includes facilitating safe movement, acknowledging women as vital economic players, and addressing unpaid caregiving through collective community efforts, the ministry elaborated. Additionally, the initiative aims to improve women’s access to resources, credit, skills, and markets, thereby broadening prospects for entrepreneurship and sustainable livelihoods.
By promoting gender-responsive policies and budgets, this initiative guarantees that women's perspectives influence decision-making at all levels, reinforcing the DAY-NRLM's pledge to promote equality and inclusive rural development.
During the launch, Union Minister of Rural Development and Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, emphasized the government's commitment to ensuring that 'no sister lives in poverty, no woman sheds tears, and every sister achieves dignity, confidence, and prosperity as a Lakhpati Didi.'
Chouhan noted that over two crore members of Self-Help Groups have already attained the status of Lakhpati Didis, adding that the government is diligently working to fulfill this vision by bolstering women’s empowerment and broadening opportunities for rural women nationwide.
Officials also indicated that the unified strength of 10 crore rural women mobilized through Self-Help Groups has transformed Nayi Chetna into a powerful grassroots movement.
An inter-ministerial advisory, jointly signed by 11 ministries and departments, was introduced to embody a 'whole of government' strategy aimed at eradicating gender-based discrimination and violence.
The launch event included participation from officials representing the central government, state rural livelihoods missions, Self-Help Group members, Anganwadi workers, and various civil society partners.
