New Delhi, June 28 (NationPress) The Ministry of Power has unveiled a task force to develop the India Energy Stack, an innovative project aimed at establishing a cohesive, secure, and interoperable digital framework for the nation's energy sector.

The India Energy Stack is set to be instrumental in integrating renewable energy sources, improving DISCOM efficiency, and ensuring transparent, dependable, and future-ready power services, as stated by officials.

As India progresses towards its goal of becoming a $5 trillion economy and fulfills its Net Zero commitments, the power sector is presented with both remarkable opportunities and intricate challenges.

The sector is undergoing significant transformation due to rapid advancements in renewable energy, electric vehicles, and increased consumer engagement in energy markets; however, fragmented systems and a lack of cohesive digital integration continue to pose significant obstacles, according to the statement.

To tackle these challenges, the Ministry of Power is reimagining the sector's digital infrastructure through the India Energy Stack – a Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) that will provide a standardized, secure, and open platform for managing, monitoring, and innovating across the electricity value chain.

The IES will assign unique IDs for consumers, assets, and transactions, enabling real-time, consent-based data sharing. It will also feature Open APIs for effortless system integration and tools designed for consumer empowerment, market access, and innovation.

On the announcement, Minister of Power Manohar Lal Khattar remarked, "There is an immediate necessity to develop robust Digital Public Infrastructure in the power sector to manage the increasing demand, ensure grid stability, and empower consumers. The DPI, such as the India Energy Stack, will be crucial in integrating renewable energy, enhancing DISCOM efficiency, and offering transparent, reliable, and future-ready power services."

"What Aadhaar achieved for identity and UPI for digital payments, the India Energy Stack (IES) will achieve for the power sector - unlocking seamless, secure, and consumer-centric energy services for every citizen," he added.

In addition to developing the IES, the Ministry will carry out a 12-month Proof of Concept to showcase IES through real-world applications in collaboration with selected utilities. This includes piloting the Utility Intelligence Platform (UIP), a modular, analytics-based application built on IES, which will provide utilities, policymakers, and consumers with real-time insights and smarter energy management.

To oversee these initiatives, the Ministry has formed a dedicated Task Force comprising experts from technology, the power sector, and regulatory bodies, which will guide the development, pilot implementation, and national scale-up of the India Energy Stack.

This initiative, led by the Ministry of Power, will produce an India Energy Stack White Paper for public consultation.

It will also conduct pilot testing of the Utility Intelligence Platform with DISCOMs in Mumbai, Gujarat, and Delhi and create a national roadmap for the rollout of the India Energy Stack.

Point of View

I firmly believe that the establishment of the India Energy Stack is a pivotal step towards modernizing India's energy infrastructure. This initiative not only aligns with the country's economic aspirations but also addresses critical challenges in the power sector. By prioritizing digital integration and consumer empowerment, we are paving the way for a sustainable and efficient energy future.
