India Set to Lead in Oil and Gas Pipeline Expansion in Asia by 2028

New Delhi, Nov 30 (NationPress) A recent report forecasts that India will take the lead in adding length to oil and gas transmission pipelines in Asia by the year 2028.

According to the findings published by GlobalData, a prominent data and analytics firm, India is anticipated to contribute over 40 percent of the total pipeline length additions in the region by 2028.

The report highlights that India is poised to commence operations on more than 50 planned and announced pipelines by 2028, which will collectively extend over 26,000 kilometers.

Out of this, approximately 24,000 kilometers will come from pipelines that have secured the necessary approvals for development.

“Pipelines for natural gas and products will represent over 80 percent of the forthcoming transmission pipeline length expansions in India by 2028. The Kandla–Gorakhpur product pipeline is expected to be the longest among these new projects, stretching 2,809 kilometers,” stated Bhargavi Gandham, an oil and gas analyst at GlobalData.

The pipeline, managed by IHB Pvt Ltd, is anticipated to begin operations in 2025 and will be crucial for fulfilling the rising LPG demand in the western regions of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh.

Another notable addition to the country's pipeline infrastructure is the planned Mehsana–Bhatinda natural gas pipeline, which will span 1,834 kilometers.

This pipeline will be operated by GSPL India Gasnet Ltd and is expected to commence operations by 2025.

Additionally, the Mumbai–Nagpur–Jharsuguda natural gas pipeline, measuring 1,755 kilometers, is also set to significantly enhance pipeline additions. This project will be managed by GAIL (India) Ltd and is slated to begin operations in 2025.
