New Delhi, Aug 11 (NationPress) India’s smartphone market has seen a growth of 0.9 percent year-over-year (YoY), with 70 million smartphones delivered to the country during the first half of this year, according to a report released on Monday.

The second quarter (Q2) experienced a YoY growth of 7.3 percent, marked by the shipment of 37 million smartphones to India. The market has bounced back from a two-quarter decline; however, weak consumer demand and increasing average selling prices (ASPs) are expected to hinder the annual rebound, as noted in a report from the International Data Corporation (IDC).

Apple's shipments rose by 21.5 percent YoY, amounting to 5.9 million units in the first half of 2025. The iPhone 16 emerged as the top model shipped in India during the first half of 2025, accounting for 4 percent of total shipments.

In the super-premium segment (priced at $800 and above), growth was recorded at 15.8 percent, while its market share remained stable at 7 percent. Samsung took the lead with 49 percent market share, just ahead of Apple’s 48 percent. Key models in this category included the iPhone 16, Galaxy S25/S24 Ultra/S25, and iPhone 16 Plus.

“Q2 2025 saw a surge in new model launches across various price tiers. Price reductions on older models, enhanced offline channel margins, and robust above-the-line (ATL) marketing strategies significantly contributed to market growth,” stated Aditya Rampal, Senior Research Analyst at IDC Asia Pacific.

The average selling price reached an unprecedented $275 in Q2CY25, reflecting a 10.8 percent YoY increase. The entry-level segment (priced under $100) grew by 22.9 percent YoY, capturing a 16 percent market share, up from 14 percent last year, with Xiaomi leading the segment through its budget Redmi A4 and A5 models.

The premium segment (ranging from $600-$800) witnessed the highest growth at 96.4 percent, with its market share increasing from 2 percent to 4 percent. The iPhone 16 and iPhone 15 together accounted for three-fifths of shipments in this sector.

Shipments to the mass budget segment ($100-$200) grew by 1.1 percent YoY, although its market share decreased from 44 percent to 42 percent. The segment is dominated by Vivo, OPPO, and realme, which collectively hold a 60 percent market share.
