Mumbai, Nov 21 (NationPress) The budget airline IndiGo announced on Friday that its board has sanctioned a substantial capital outlay of $820 million (approximately Rs 7,294 crore) aimed at acquiring aviation assets, facilitating the ownership of aircraft.
This funding was approved for IndiGo’s entirely owned subsidiary, InterGlobe Aviation Financial Services IFSC Private Limited (IndiGo IFSC).
“This investment will be executed through a mix of equity shares and 0.01% Non-Cumulative Optionally Convertible Redeemable Preference Shares (OCRPS), across one or more phases. The capital raised by IndiGo IFSC will primarily focus on the acquisition of aviation assets, thereby enhancing aircraft ownership,” stated the airline in a stock exchange disclosure.
The capital infusion is slated for FY 2025-26, to occur in multiple phases.
The company plans to acquire equity shares with a face value of Rs 10 per share of IndiGo IFSC totaling $770 million (Rs 68,492 million) valued at Rs 10.92 per share as assessed by an Independent Category-1 Merchant Banker.
Additionally, the company will subscribe to 0.01% OCRPS worth $50 million (Rs 4,448 million) at a face value of Rs 100 per share.
“Post this investment, IndiGo IFSC will continue as a wholly owned subsidiary of the Company,” IndiGo confirmed.
Historically, IndiGo has maintained a fleet structure largely based on operating leases.
In recent years, the airline has taken significant steps towards establishing a more balanced ownership model and diversifying its financing approaches, demonstrating its commitment to responsible capital allocation and sustainable value creation for all stakeholders.
With a fleet exceeding 400 aircraft, the airline operates approximately 2,300 daily flights connecting over 90 domestic and more than 40 international destinations.
IndiGo IFSC was established on October 12, 2023, under the Companies Act, 2013, as a wholly owned subsidiary in Gift City, Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
