Bhubaneswar, Nov 19 (NationPress) Union Minister of Heavy Industries and Steel H.D. Kumaraswamy convened a meeting with Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi at Lok Seva Bhawan, focusing on various topics, notably the challenges related to the growth of the integrated steel plant operated by Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) in Rourkela, situated in Sundargarh district.
Following the meeting, the Union Minister addressed the media, stating that they engaged in a comprehensive and productive dialogue regarding multiple longstanding issues.
“Several matters have lingered for years. Today, the Chief Minister engaged in thorough discussions with our ministry representatives and state officials. He has guaranteed prompt action, especially on land-related issues,” the Union Minister stated.
Kumaraswamy revealed that a committee has already been established as a result of talks held in Delhi to tackle and resolve all outstanding concerns regarding SAIL's proposed 9.5 MTPA expansion initiative.
“The Chief Minister has exhibited remarkable leadership. Following our discussions in Delhi, we formed a committee, and most issues are now progressing toward resolution. I am grateful for the CM’s proactive approach,” he remarked.
The Union Minister highlighted that Odisha is poised to play a crucial role in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of boosting national steel production.
“Our Rourkela facility is being upgraded to 9.5 million tonnes. Private steel companies are significantly contributing as well. The government is dedicated to supporting both private and public sector entities to fortify India’s steel framework,” Kumaraswamy explained.
He concluded by reaffirming that the Centre and the state will collaborate to expedite the growth of the steel industry in Odisha.
A statement from the Chief Minister’s Office indicated that extensive discussions took place regarding the seamless acquisition of land necessary for the expansion of the Rourkela Steel Plant.
During the meeting, CM Majhi emphasized the critical need for the Rourkela Steel Plant's expansion, which would ensure swift economic development in the state and create job opportunities.
The government also resolved to establish a committee headed by a senior state government official at the rank of Additional Chief Secretary to address all unresolved concerns after consultations with the community.
Discussions also encompassed various topics, including land provisions for constructing an airport in Rourkela.
