Mangaluru, (Karnataka), Nov 19 (NationPress) The BJP celebrated senior party leader and former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee as a source of inspiration during a special event marking his centenary.
During the prestigious district-level event titled 'Atal Virasat' held in Puttur, BJP MLA B. Y. Vijayendra remarked, "The name Atalji itself serves as an inspiring force; he was a poet and a writer at heart. Atalji was considered an 'Ajatashatru' (one without enemies) and a genuine patriot. We take pride in being part of the BJP founded by Atalji."
The state BJP president reminisced about Vajpayee's visits to Karnataka and the Mangaluru area, where he acknowledged the organizational prowess of the local party members.
He also referenced Vajpayee's assertion that Karnataka would act as the BJP's entrance to South India.
Vijayendra highlighted that Atalji consistently treated even the most ordinary party members with respect.
He expressed optimism regarding the BJP's prospects in winning Puttur during the 2028 Assembly elections.
In his critique of the Congress-led administration, he stated that it came to power through "false promises," leading to distress among the poor, farmers, and sugarcane growers.
He accused the Congress party of neglecting the underprivileged and farmers, asserting that Hindu activists were being targeted. He urged everyone to commit to dismantling the anti-poor, anti-farmer, and anti-Hindu Congress party.
Former State President Nalin Kumar Kateel noted that Atalji transformed India into a debt-free nation during his leadership and played a key role in the 'Kargil Vijayotsav'.
He emphasized Atalji's substantial contributions to national development through effective governance, the Pokhran nuclear tests, and initiatives like the midday meal for schoolchildren.
Kateel added that Atalji challenged the perception that the BJP was anti-Muslim or anti-Christian.
Former Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda remembered Vajpayee's campaign efforts in Sullia, Belthangady, and Puttur during the 1991 elections.
He fondly recalled Atalji's wish not to be positioned where he couldn't connect with the party workers.
Gowda described Atalji as a leader characterized by vision, careful planning, and successful execution.
