New Delhi, Aug 16 (NationPress) President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with a host of dignitaries, paid floral tributes to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee at 'Sadaiv Atal' in New Delhi on Saturday, commemorating his death anniversary.
The leaders participated in a solemn prayer meeting dedicated to Vajpayee's memory.
Among those who paid homage were Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, Rajya Sabha Vice Chairman Harivansh Singh, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, and BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj.
Born on December 25, 1924, in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, Atal Bihari Vajpayee was not only a politician but also a poet and author.
He held the position of India's Prime Minister three times: briefly in 1996 for 13 days, then from 1998 to 1999 for 13 months, and finally for a complete term from 1999 to 2004. Vajpayee departed from this world on August 16, 2018, at AIIMS in New Delhi.
Union Minister Kiren Rijiju remarked to reporters, "Today, we have gathered to honor Atal Ji on his death anniversary. Each year, we commemorate both his birthday and his death anniversary here. Alongside the President and Prime Minister of India, we took part in the prayer meeting. We always cherish the memory of Atal Ji."
BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj referred to Vajpayee as a guiding light.
"He was not merely a leader but also our mentor, a source of motivation, and a visionary. On this day of remembrance, we have come to express our respects," she stated.
Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva reflected on Vajpayee's enduring influence, stating, "Bharat Ratna Atal Ji was an exceptional human being. His thoughts and speeches continue to inspire all of us party members today."
BJP national spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain also paid tribute to the late leader, saying, "Today is a day to honor Atal Ji. He is fondly remembered for his significant contributions as Bharat Ratna and former Prime Minister of India, and his legacy will never fade away."
