Mumbai, Oct 13 (NationPress) The prominent infrastructure company Larsen & Toubro (L&T) declared on Monday that its power transmission and distribution (PT&D) division has obtained multiple significant grid infrastructure contracts in the Middle East, estimated between Rs 2,500 crore and Rs 5,000 crore.
In a regulatory announcement, the firm revealed that one of the notable projects encompasses the engineering, procurement, and construction of a 400 kV substation in the UAE, which will be pivotal in enhancing the power grid interconnection among GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) member nations.
“The 400kV super grid interconnection connecting the electricity networks of GCC member states has facilitated the efficient utilization of generation capacity and has bolstered overall grid resilience,” stated the company in its announcement.
At present, Oman’s electricity network is linked to the GCC grid via the UAE at 220 kV.
The forthcoming project aspires to create a direct connection at the 400 kV level, thereby improving power reliability and fostering regional energy collaboration.
“Currently, the network of the Sultanate of Oman is connected to this interconnection via UAE’s grid at 220kV. Now a direct interconnection is being established at 400 kV level for which a 400 kV Substation in UAE is critical,” the company further elaborated in its announcement.
Additionally, the company has received another contract to construct several new 132 kV substations in the Middle East to address the region’s escalating electricity demand.
In Saudi Arabia, L&T has secured a turnkey contract for the construction of 380 kV overhead transmission lines.
These lines are associated with the integration of renewable energy power plants, promoting the kingdom’s transition towards sustainable energy.
“In Saudi Arabia, an order has been received for turnkey construction of 380 kV overhead transmission lines linked with the integration of renewable energy power plants,” mentioned the company in its announcement.
