New Delhi, Sep 1 (NationPress) Maruti Suzuki India Limited announced an 8.25% year-on-year (YoY) decrease in its domestic passenger vehicle sales for August. The company recorded 1,31,278 units sold in the domestic market this month, a drop from 1,43,075 units in August 2024.
According to the company's report, total domestic sales, including passenger and light commercial vehicles, reached 1,34,048 units, down from 1,45,895 units the previous year.
Exports also experienced a decline, with Maruti Suzuki exporting 18,466 units in August 2025, compared to 22,566 units a year prior.
Consequently, the company's total sales, including both domestic and exports, amounted to 1,52,514 units, lower than 1,68,361 units in August 2024.
While overall demand was tepid, Maruti Suzuki noted that sales of its utility vehicles like the Brezza, Grand Vitara, and Ertiga remained robust, significantly contributing to volume.
Conversely, sales of smaller cars remained sluggish as affordability concerns affected entry-level buyers.
The company stated its commitment to expanding its SUV lineup and enhancing hybrid and CNG options to adapt to evolving customer demands.
Amidst this sales performance, Maruti Suzuki achieved a significant milestone in August by launching exports of Suzuki’s inaugural battery electric vehicle (BEV), the ‘e VITARA’.
Over 2,900 units of the electric SUV were dispatched from Pipavav Port in Gujarat to a dozen European nations, including the United Kingdom, Germany, Norway, France, Denmark, Switzerland, Netherlands, Sweden, Hungary, Iceland, Austria, and Belgium.
This export follows the event at Maruti Suzuki’s Hansalpur manufacturing facility in Gujarat on August 26, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated the commencement of e VITARA production and praised the automaker as a representative of the ‘Make in India’ initiative.
The e VITARA is solely produced at the Gujarat facility and will be exported to over 100 countries, in addition to being available in the Indian market.
