New Delhi, Feb 18 (NationPress) Mobile phone exports from India are anticipated to surpass approximately Rs 1,80,000 crore this fiscal year (FY25), reflecting a remarkable 40% increase compared to the previous year, according to industry data released on Tuesday.

In the first 10 months of this fiscal year (April-January), India achieved Rs 1,50,000 crore in mobile exports, with January alone exceeding Rs 25,000 crore in shipments, as reported by the India Cellular and Electronics Association (ICEA).

Since the initiation of the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme in FY20-21, there has been an astonishing growth of over 680%.

Mobile phone exports have emerged as the primary growth engine within the electronics sector, with the U.S. identified as a pivotal market for India's smartphones.

This exceptional performance highlights the profound impact of the PLI scheme, which has fundamentally transformed India's electronics manufacturing environment.

Since the PLI scheme's launch, mobile phone production in India has doubled — soaring from Rs 2,20,000 crore to Rs 4,22,000 crore — marking a significant milestone.

Forecasts indicate that production could reach Rs 5,10,000 crore in FY24-25, reinforcing India's position as a global manufacturing leader.

“We have attained considerable scale, propelled by strong government backing and our industry’s robust capabilities. Moving forward, we aim to enhance competitiveness, expand scale, and fortify our supply chain,” stated Pankaj Mohindroo, Chairman of ICEA.

The upcoming phase will prioritize aggressive integration within the value chain to enhance domestic value addition, driving us towards realizing India's ambitious $500 billion electronics manufacturing goal and our vision of becoming the leading exporter of smartphones globally, he added.

This remarkable achievement is the result of a synergistic collaboration between a proactive government and an industry that has consistently demonstrated its ability to produce globally competitive smartphones.

Smartphones are on the verge of becoming India's premier export product for the first time in history — a testament to an extraordinary turnaround in our independent manufacturing capabilities.

“We cannot afford to rest on our laurels — our journey has only just begun. There are vast opportunities still to be explored, and with the rapidly changing geopolitical landscape, our window of opportunity is limited. We must take decisive action now,” Mohindroo emphasized.
