Chandigarh, July 21 (NationPress) Academician Ashim Kumar Ghosh has officially taken office as the 19th Governor of Haryana, following the tenure of Bandaru Dattatraya, on Monday. The oath was administered by Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, Justice Sheel Nagu, during a modest yet dignified event at the Haryana Raj Bhavan.
Prof. Ghosh, a renowned academic and seasoned political figure, led the Department of Political Science at a prestigious college in Kolkata for nearly four decades. His contributions to academic research and political dialogue are significant, with involvement in projects under the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), along with numerous publications in notable journals.
In attendance at the swearing-in ceremony were Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria and Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, alongside the Governor's wife, Mitra Ghosh, Chief Minister's wife Suman Saini, and family members of the Governor.
Ghosh’s appointment as governor is perceived as a recognition of his extensive political journey and a tribute to the veteran BJP leaders who laid the groundwork for the party’s presence in West Bengal, a region where it previously had a limited influence. His leadership as state president from 1999 to 2002 marked a time of gradual growth for the BJP in Bengal.
The event was further graced by the Speaker of the Haryana Vidhan Sabha, Harvinder Kalyan, along with various Cabinet Ministers, Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi, Secretary to the Governor Atul Dwivedi, MLAs, Vice Chancellors, and senior officials.
Post-ceremony, Governor Ghosh warmly interacted with dignitaries and received congratulatory messages. Additionally, a special unit from the Haryana Armed Police provided a ceremonial guard of honour to the Governor.
