Ambala, Aug 15 (NationPress) Haryana Governor Ashim Kumar Ghosh on Friday raised the national flag and took the salute at the state-level 79th Independence Day festivities in Ambala City.
Offering heartfelt greetings and best wishes on this significant day, the Governor sent special Independence Day wishes to the brave soldiers who defend the nation’s borders tirelessly.
Prior to the celebrations, the Governor laid floral tributes at the Shaheed Smarak, honoring the martyrs with deep respect. He also recognized war widows, family members of freedom fighters, and distinguished individuals who participated in the Emergency and Hindi Andolan.
The Governor’s wife, Mitra Ghosh, accompanied him during the event. Governor Ghosh reflected on the fulfillment of every Indian's dream for independence 79 years ago, in 1947.
He emphasized that this day is also a moment to honor the multitude of martyrs and freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for this freedom.
Expressing profound homage to both known and unknown martyrs, he conveyed his gratitude to the valiant freedom fighters. He noted that, as in previous years, the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign has ignited patriotic spirit, with the tricolor proudly displayed on homes, streets, and neighborhoods across the nation.
The Governor expressed appreciation for the nation-builders, border-guarding soldiers, talented scientists, farmers, and diligent laborers who, through their determination, skill, and bravery, have positioned India as a global power. He recalled that Haryana played a pivotal role in the struggle for freedom, with the revolt of 1857 igniting in Ambala on May 8, 1857.
In tribute to these fighters, a Shaheedi Samarak is being constructed in Ambala at an investment of Rs 538 crore.
Governor Ghosh praised Haryana’s soldiers for their remarkable contributions to safeguarding the nation's frontiers post-Independence, showcasing exemplary bravery during the 1962, 1965, and 1971 wars, as well as in the Kargil conflict.
Highlighting India's ascendant global status, he stated that under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India’s voice resonates on international platforms.
“Our nation is not only manufacturing missiles utilizing advanced indigenous technology but is also successfully executing missions such as Suryaayan, Chandrayaan, and Mangalyaan.
Commenting on recent defense achievements, Governor Ghosh noted that the world has witnessed the strength of India's homegrown technology and weaponry during Operation Sindoor.
He also commended the Indian Army’s Operation Mahadev, which delivered justice for the perpetrators behind the Pahalgam attack.
