New Delhi, June 25 (NationPress) Union Railways and Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced on Wednesday that mobile exports from India have experienced a remarkable surge at the start of this fiscal year, with May achieving over $3.09 billion in mobile exports. In the April-May timeframe, the country recorded mobile exports worth $5.5 billion.
Government initiatives like the production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme have significantly promoted domestic manufacturing in recent years, leading global technology leaders such as Apple and Samsung to strengthen their supply chains in India.
According to Vaishnaw, mobile phone exports from India in May rose by over 74 percent compared to the same month last year.
“FY26 is off to a robust beginning: $3 billion in smartphone exports in May alone (+74 percent YoY); $5.5 billion in April-May; and $8.2 billion in electronics exports in April-May (+47 percent YoY
This impressive growth can be attributed to India's competitive advantages, making it a preferred destination for tech giants like Apple, which has reaffirmed its commitment to manufacturing in India, thereby supporting the ‘Make in India’ initiative.
India's electronics exports have surged from fifth to third place within a single fiscal year, thanks to the transformative PLI scheme, as per Vaishnaw's statement.
In FY25, electronics exports reached a record high of Rs 3.27 lakh crore, with mobile exports accounting for Rs 2 lakh crore. “Electronics exports have advanced from fifth to third place within a single fiscal year, and for three consecutive years, electronics have been India’s fastest-growing export category among the top 10,” Vaishnaw recently noted.
He added that millions of new jobs have been created within the electronics ecosystem, particularly benefiting women, alongside initiatives for “skilling, increasing DVA, and involving Indian MSMEs in global supply chains.”
The electronics manufacturing sector has experienced a fivefold increase over the past decade, surpassing Rs 11 lakh crore, with the entire ecosystem generating 25 lakh jobs. In the last ten years, electronics exports have increased sixfold, exceeding Rs 3.25 lakh crore.
The country has demonstrated to major companies like Apple the significance of ‘Make in India’, establishing itself as a pivotal hub for Apple’s global supply chain in recent years.
