Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Feb 16 (NationPress) The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) announced on Monday the extension of its ‘UPI One World’ wallet service for international guests attending the India AI Impact Summit 2026 in the capital city.
The summit is scheduled from February 16 to 20, and attendees from over 40 nations can now make secure and seamless UPI payments during their time in India.
This pilot initiative allows foreign visitors to conduct real-time Person-to-Merchant (P2M) payments using UPI, eliminating the need for an Indian mobile number or local bank account.
As a result, international delegates can immerse themselves in India’s culture, shopping, and culinary experiences while leveraging “Made in India” digital payment solutions.
The ‘UPI One World’ wallet will be accessible through authorized prepaid payment instrument (PPI) providers at New Delhi International Airport and at the NPCI Pavilion located in Hall 14 at Bharat Mandapam, the venue for the summit.
Guests can easily download the CheqUPI app by Transcorp from the Play Store or App Store and follow a straightforward registration procedure.
They will need to input their basic information, upload their passport and visa, take a selfie via the app, and create their UPI PIN. Once registered, they receive a unique UPI ID.
Travellers can fund the wallet using an international debit or credit card and start making payments by scanning UPI QR codes across India.
This innovation negates the need for cash and sidesteps foreign exchange challenges. Any remaining balance in the wallet can be reverted to the original payment source, adhering to foreign exchange regulations.
Users can load a maximum of Rs 25,000 per transaction, with two wallet loads permitted each month, totaling Rs 50,000 monthly.
Sohini Rajola, Executive Director - Growth at NPCI, emphasized that UPI represents the world’s largest real-time payment system.
