NSE Achieves Record Capital of Rs 1.67 Lakh Crore Globally Through 268 IPOs in 2024

Mumbai, Jan 3 (NationPress) The Indian stock market has seen a remarkable surge in initial public offerings (IPOs) in 2024, surpassing all other global exchanges. The National Stock Exchange (NSE) reported that it raised Rs 1.67 lakh crore (approximately $19.5 billion) through these IPOs, making it the highest globally, according to a report from the exchange on Friday.

The total of 268 successful IPOs, which included 90 from the mainboard and 178 from SMEs, contributed to this impressive capital raise and also reflects the highest number of IPOs recorded in Asia.

This figure of 268 IPOs represents the largest number of public issues ever documented in India, showcasing the increasing confidence of investors in the capital markets.

Among these, the largest IPO in India and the second largest globally was the $3.3 billion offering by Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL).

Out of the 90 mainboard companies (not including REITs, INVITs, and FPOs), they collectively raised over Rs 1.59 lakh crore, while the 178 SMEs raised approximately Rs 7,349 crore, as indicated in the report.

According to Sriram Krishnan, Chief Business Development Officer (CBDO) of NSE, 'The record number of IPOs in 2024 underscores the resilience and potential of the Indian economy. Companies from various sectors are recognizing the significance of public markets to bolster their growth strategies.'

The data indicates that the NSE alone conducted more IPOs than the combined total of other leading exchanges in Asia, including Japan’s Japan Exchange Group, Hong Kong’s Stock Exchange, and China’s Shanghai Stock Exchange.

In comparison, the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) raised $15.9 billion, while the Shanghai Stock Exchange accumulated $8.8 billion.

The Shanghai Stock Exchange recorded 101 public issues, while Japan and Hong Kong saw 93 and 66 IPOs, respectively.

In total, there were 1,145 IPOs globally in 2024, a decrease from 1,271 in the previous year.
