NSE's Market Capitalization Grows By 21% to Reach ₹438 Lakh Crore in 2024

Mumbai, Dec 31 (NationPress) The year 2024 has been a remarkable year for the Indian stock market, with the market capitalization of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) rising by 21% on a year-on-year basis, reaching ₹438.9 lakh crore ($5.13 trillion) as of December 31, 2024, up from ₹361.05 lakh crore ($4.34 trillion) on December 29, 2023, according to data released on Tuesday.

A total of 301 companies were listed on the NSE in 2024.

Among these, 90 were mainboard companies and 178 were SME companies. Additionally, 33 companies were directly listed.

In the year 2024, there were 90 IPOs from mainboard companies, collectively raising ₹1.59 lakh crore. The average IPO size for mainboard companies was ₹1,772 crore.

The largest IPO of the year was issued by Hyundai Motor India, with an issue size of ₹27,859 crore, while the smallest IPO at ₹72 crore was launched by Vibhor Steel Tubes.

This year, 178 SME companies raised ₹7,348 crore through IPOs, with an average size of ₹41 crore. The largest SME IPO was launched by Danish Power at ₹198 crore, while the smallest was by HOAC Foods India Ltd at ₹6 crore.

In 2024, the Nifty50 index rose 8.8% on an annual basis.

On December 31, 2024, the NSE's benchmark index closed at 23,645, compared to 21,731 on December 29, 2023.

Among the NSE indices, the Nifty Next 50 index delivered the highest return of 27.4%. Meanwhile, the Nifty Smallcap 50 and Nifty Midcap 50 yielded returns of 25.3% and 21.5%, respectively.

The NSE's market cap to GDP ratio stood at 145% on December 31, 2024, a significant increase from 117% on December 29, 2023, reflecting an increase of 29%.
