Omkareshwar Floating Solar Park Exemplifies India's Clean Energy Aspirations: Pralhad Joshi

New Delhi, Jan 4 (NationPress) The 600 MW Omkareshwar Floating Solar Park, situated in the Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh, exemplifies the scale and ambition of India’s clean energy targets, declared Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Pralhad Joshi, on Saturday.

During his visit to the nation’s largest floating solar facility, Joshi noted that this groundbreaking renewable energy project, with a total development expenditure of Rs 330 crore, serves as a testament to India's burgeoning expertise and dedication to sustainable energy.

“A heartfelt thank you to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Mohan Yadav for their steadfast support in advancing India's renewable future. This project illustrates the scale and ambition of our country’s clean energy aspirations,” he expressed in a post on social media platform X.

The Union Minister underscored the significance of innovative solutions such as floating solar technology in overcoming land limitations while fostering sustainable progress.

He also pointed out the efficiency of this method, mentioning that the cooling effect of water boosts solar panel performance, subsequently enhancing energy generation.

The Omkareshwar Floating Solar Park has already commissioned a total of 278 MW so far.

The overall anticipated development cost of the park stands at Rs 330 crore, bolstered by central financial aid of Rs 49.85 crore.

Union Minister Joshi stated that Madhya Pradesh has substantially increased its renewable energy capacity, achieving a remarkable 14-fold growth over the last 12 years, rising from less than 500 MW in 2012 to its current capacity.

“As the project progresses towards full capacity, the complete 600 MW will be operational. It is expected to produce more than 4600 million units of clean energy over the next 25 years. This is a significant milestone in our endeavor for a sustainable and renewable energy future,” he remarked.

India achieved a total of 214 GW of installed green energy capacity in 2024 and is firmly on course to accomplish its ambitious goal of attaining 500 GW energy capacity from non-fossil fuels by 2030.
