PM Modi to Inaugurate NTPC's ₹1.85 Lakh Crore Green Hydrogen Hub Project Near Visakhapatnam

New Delhi, Jan 7 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the foundation of NTPC’s advanced Green Hydrogen Hub Project located at Pudimadaka, near Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, on Wednesday (Jan 8). This initiative, which involves an investment of ₹1.85 lakh crore, is a significant part of the Government’s extensive efforts towards clean energy.
The project, being executed by NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL), marks the first Green Hydrogen hub under the National Green Hydrogen Mission, designed to help India meet its net zero emissions target.
With the potential to create over 57,000 jobs, this initiative will greatly benefit the local economy and position Andhra Pradesh as a crucial player in the global green energy arena. Additionally, it will significantly assist in achieving India's non-fossil energy capacity goal of 500 GW by 2030, as stated.
The NGEL Green Hydrogen Hub will encompass an investment in 20 GW renewable energy capacities, establishing it as one of India’s largest integrated facilities for green hydrogen production, with the capability to generate 1500 TPD of Green Hydrogen and 7500 TPD of Green Hydrogen derivatives (which include Green Methanol, Green Urea, and Sustainable Aviation Fuel), primarily aimed at the export market.
Spanning over 1600 acres, this project will feature the establishment of a manufacturing hub, a green chemical zone, a chemical storage terminal, port infrastructure, a transmission corridor, a 7 GW substation, an 80 MLD desalination plant, an effluent treatment facility, and additional infrastructures, creating a comprehensive operational framework that is expected to be completed by 2032.
In addition to its pivotal role in India's pursuit of energy independence, this initiative will facilitate decarbonization across significant sectors, bolstering the nation’s Net Zero objectives, as per the announcement.
The National Green Hydrogen Mission aims to draw in over ₹8 lakh crore in investments, projected to generate 600,000 jobs by 2030. This mission is expected to lower fossil fuel imports by ₹1 lakh crore and reduce carbon emissions by 5 MMT by 2030.
