The Ministry of Rural Development is overseeing the implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G), effective from April 1, 2016, aimed at aiding 2.95 crore eligible rural households with essential amenities by March 2024.
As per the information provided by Dr. Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, Minister of State for Rural Development, all houses have been sanctioned to the eligible beneficiaries by the states/UTs by March 31, 2024.
The Union Cabinet has greenlit a proposal for the “Implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) during FY 2024-25 to 2028-29” for constructing an additional 2 crore houses.
The ministry has set targets for 84,37,139 houses for the year 2024-25 across 18 states: Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Odisha, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka.
According to the ministry, the primary hurdles in the execution of PMAY-G include delays in the release of Central and state funds from the State Treasury to the PMAY-G State Nodal Account, reluctance from beneficiaries, permanent migration, disputes over succession among deceased beneficiaries, delays in land allocation to landless beneficiaries by the states/UTs, and occasionally, elections causing interruptions, along with shortages of building materials.
The ministry is adopting several strategies to guarantee monitoring and timely completion of houses under PMAY-G, such as prompt allocation of targets to the states/UTs and diligent follow-ups on land provision for landless beneficiaries.
Additional initiatives encompass issue-specific monitoring of house sanctions and completions via a workflow-enabled transaction-based MIS-AwaasSoft, analytic dashboards, and the application of advanced IT tools and AI/ML technologies, along with regular evaluations.
Furthermore, the ministry is ensuring the timely disbursement of funds to states/UTs and is following up for the onward release to beneficiaries.
