Seoul, Feb 20 (NationPress) On Friday, Science Minister Bae Kyung-hoon co-led the council meeting of the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI) alongside Singapore in New Delhi, where they discussed worldwide strategies aimed at fostering human-centric artificial intelligence (AI), as reported by the science ministry.
The GPAI, comprised of 44 nations, including members of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), is dedicated to advancing the development and application of AI in accordance with the OECD AI Principles. South Korea and Singapore assumed co-chair roles in this initiative starting from 2026, according to Yonhap news agency.
Minister Bae emphasized, "AI is a crucial force that is transforming the wider economy and society." He added, "We need to not only explore its possibilities but also strive for responsible implementation and achieve concrete results."
Bae highlighted South Korea's advancements in building infrastructure and developing talent for the AI sector, expressing the nation's commitment to share these resources with the global community.
During the event, Bae also met with Singapore’s Digital Minister Josephine Teo and India’s Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to discuss potential collaborations in the AI industry.
Additionally, Bae had a discussion with Michael Kratsios, director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, to exchange insights on the AI policy frameworks of both countries and deliberate on specific actions to implement the Technology Prosperity Deal that was established in October.
Furthermore, Kyung-hoon shared South Korea's vision and its recent policies concerning the AI sector on Thursday. He participated in the India AI Impact Summit 2026, which commenced on Thursday (local time) in New Delhi and runs for two days, discussing how to leverage AI technology for the benefit of common human values, as per the Ministry of Science and ICT.
The ministry noted that the summit provided a platform for nations to exchange their initiatives aimed at maximizing the impact of AI technology and extending its influence across the Global South.
Minister Bae presented South Korea's policies on AI transformation and the nation’s experiences with the implementation of the AI Basic Act, underscoring Seoul's efforts to enhance cooperation with the global community.
