Sapphire Foods Q2 FY27: KFC, Pizza Hut operator swings to ₹1.1 crore loss
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Sapphire Foods India Limited, the operator of KFC and Pizza Hut restaurants across India and Sri Lanka, reported a net loss of ₹1.1 crore in Q2 FY27 (July–September 2026), reversing a net profit of ₹14.2 crore posted in the preceding quarter (Q1 FY27). On a year-on-year basis, however, the company narrowed its losses from ₹12.8 crore recorded in Q2 FY26, according to its regulatory exchange filing.
Revenue and EBITDA Performance
Revenue from operations jumped 19.7 per cent year-on-year to ₹888 crore in the September quarter, up from ₹742 crore in the same period last year. The growth was underpinned by strong momentum in the KFC segment and an improving outlook at Pizza Hut.
EBITDA rose 23.5 per cent year-on-year to ₹126 crore from ₹102 crore, with the EBITDA margin expanding to 14.2 per cent from 13.7 per cent a year earlier, per the company's regulatory filing. The improvement in operating profitability stands in contrast to the bottom-line swing into loss, reflecting elevated below-the-line costs.
KFC Posts 16-Quarter High in Revenue Growth
The KFC business delivered what the company described as its strongest quarterly performance in recent years, with revenue growing 26 per cent — the highest in the last 16 quarters. Same Store Sales Growth (SSSG) came in at 14 per cent, with dine-in and takeaway channels outperforming delivery, driven by double-digit transaction growth.
According to the investor presentation, value-focused offerings played a central role in driving footfalls. Products such as the ₹99 Chicken Krisper Burger Meal, the ₹149 Thalaiva Meal in Tamil Nadu, and buy-one-get-one deals on chicken buckets attracted new customers and supported higher visit frequency, backed by increased marketing investments.
Pizza Hut Shows Signs of Recovery
Pizza Hut, which has historically trailed the company's KFC segment, showed signs of a turnaround during the quarter. The segment recorded revenue growth of 7 per cent and its highest same-store sales growth in the last seven quarters, alongside double-digit same-store transaction growth.
Value-driven promotions — including a ₹99 four-course meal and buy-one-get-one offers — contributed to the improved sales trajectory. Despite this, Pizza Hut's EBITDA margin remained under pressure at a negative 2.8 per cent, deteriorating by 100 basis points from a year earlier, primarily due to higher energy costs.
Store Network Expansion Continues
Sapphire Foods continued its expansion push during the quarter, adding 15 KFC restaurants and one Pizza Hut outlet in Sri Lanka. The company's total restaurant count stood at 1,086 as of 30 September 2026. The network addition signals management's confidence in medium-term demand, even as near-term profitability remains pressured.
The company's ability to sustain revenue momentum while reining in Pizza Hut's margin drag will be closely watched in the quarters ahead.
