New Delhi, Oct 11 (NationPress) The Taiwanese semiconductor giant MediaTek, recognized as one of the leading chip suppliers globally, has reportedly expressed its intention to commence chip production in India once local fabrication facilities are ready for operation.

Emphasizing the increasing alignment between India's consumption and manufacturing capabilities, Anku Jain, Managing Director of MediaTek India, was quoted in media reports stating that the company recognizes significant business rationale for local chip production.

MediaTek, serving prominent smartphone brands like Xiaomi, Samsung, Oppo, and Vivo, designs and develops chipsets that drive millions of devices globally. The company believes that local manufacturing will help streamline supply chains, lower costs, and bolster resilience against worldwide disruptions.

Following a fabless model akin to its competitors such as Nvidia and Qualcomm, MediaTek concentrates on chip design and software development, while outsourcing actual manufacturing to foundries like TSMC, Intel Foundry Services, and GlobalFoundries.

This strategic move also aligns with India's broader goal to position itself as a semiconductor manufacturing hub, supported by a robust $10 billion incentive package from the government.

The semiconductor market in India was valued at $38 billion in 2023 and is projected to reach between $45 to $50 billion by 2024-25, and $100 to $110 billion by 2030. The global semiconductor market is anticipated to expand to $1 trillion by the same year.

Recently, MediaTek revealed its ambitious plans for advancing AI technology, enhancing its technology roadmap.

The company also announced a collaboration with TSMC to develop a next-generation flagship SoC based on the improved N2P process, with mass production expected to commence late next year. MediaTek has launched its latest flagship chipset, the MediaTek Dimensity 9500, aimed at powering the next generation of premium 5G smartphones.

This chipset integrates industry-leading on-device AI, console-quality gaming, and exceptional energy efficiency, redefining mobile performance.

“With AI becoming a vital part of everyday life, consumers demand devices that offer enhanced intelligence, speed, personalization, and energy efficiency. Our flagship MediaTek Dimensity 9500 provides breakthrough on-device AI, outstanding performance and efficiency, along with a comprehensive suite of premium experiences for our OEM partners to deliver to users globally,” stated Jain.

In alignment with the IMC 2025 theme of ‘Innovate to Transform,’ MediaTek showcased its longstanding expertise in connectivity, computing, and multimedia technologies.
