Did Telangana Set a New Record in Paddy Procurement with 70.82 Lakh Tonnes?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Hyderabad, Jan 13 (NationPress) Telangana has made history by achieving a remarkable paddy procurement of 70.82 lakh tonnes during the 2025-26 Kharif marketing season, exceeding the previous record of 70.2 lakh tonnes set in 2020-21.
Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy announced on Tuesday that this achievement marks a significant milestone in paddy procurement.
According to him, this record-setting procurement has positively impacted approximately 14 lakh farmers throughout the State. The government allocated ₹16,606 crore as the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for the farmers, along with an additional ₹1,425 crore in bonuses.
The minister described this accomplishment as a Sankranti bonanza for the farming community in Telangana. In his Sankranti greetings to the farmers, he emphasized the festival's themes of gratitude, prosperity, and farmer welfare.
Uttam Kumar Reddy reiterated the Congress government's dedication to enhancing farmers' welfare and promoting agricultural prosperity.
This milestone was achieved through collaboration with farmers, he stated.
Out of the total procurement of 70.82 lakh tonnes, 32.45 lakh tonnes were coarse paddy, while the remaining 38.37 lakh tonnes were classified as fine paddy.
Farmers cultivating fine paddy received a bonus of ₹500 per quintal.
On the eve of Sankranti, the Civil Supplies Department disbursed ₹500 crore for the bonus payments to farmers. Following the directive of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, this bonus amount was credited directly to the farmers' bank accounts, bringing the total bonus disbursed to ₹1,429 crore.
In October of the previous year, Uttam Kumar Reddy had announced that Telangana recorded an all-time high paddy production of 148.03 lakh tonnes during the kharif season, which is regarded as the highest production by any state in India.
He attributed this achievement to the effective policies implemented by the state government under the leadership of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka concerning agriculture and farmer support.
A total of 8,342 paddy procurement centres were set up across the State to facilitate the purchase of paddy cultivated over 66.8 lakh acres. Of these, 4,259 centres were established through primary agricultural cooperative societies, 3,517 through IKP centres, and 566 centres through various other organizations.
