Mumbai, Sep 22 (NationPress) Ultra Gas & Energy Ltd (UGEL), a venture by Essar, has become the largest private LNG operator in India, boasting the highest number of LNG refuelling outlets (ROs) with six stations now operational in key freight corridors.
These ROs are strategically positioned in Bhilwara (Rajasthan), Anand (Gujarat), Chakan-Pune (Maharashtra), Jalna (Maharashtra), Toranagallu (Karnataka), and Vallam (Tamil Nadu), providing efficient access to cleaner fuels in vital industrial and logistics hubs.
As a pioneering clean-tech firm, UGEL is at the forefront of establishing India’s largest LNG fuelling network, propelling the shift towards sustainable and low-emission transportation.
UGEL is leading the charge in India’s green mobility movement by creating a comprehensive LNG delivery system and offering affordable, low-carbon fuel through an expanding network of retail locations.
Each UGEL RO is designed to be future-ready, equipped with integrated infrastructure to facilitate electric vehicle (EV) charging, underscoring the company’s long-term vision of multi-fuel, low-emission mobility solutions.
By enabling commercial fleets to transition from high-emission fuels to cleaner options like LNG and Electric, UGEL is bringing both environmental and economic benefits to its clientele.
UGEL has set a target to expand its network to 100 LNG retail outlets across India, backed by a planned investment of Rs 900 crore. Expansion efforts are already underway in key states such as Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab, Karnataka, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, and Jharkhand, laying the foundation for a robust nationwide infrastructure that aligns with India’s clean energy and transportation objectives.
Maqsood Shaikh, the Managing Director & CEO of Ultra Gas & Energy Ltd, stated, “Our retail outlets are designed to serve more than just fuel; they are catalysts for a cleaner, smarter logistics future. With our strong infrastructure and intelligent energy solutions, we are proud to spearhead India’s transition towards greener fuels and sustainable mobility. Our vision at UGEL is firmly anchored in innovation, efficiency, and environmental responsibility.”
These stations are strategically located to cater to high-density logistics areas, accelerating the transition from diesel to LNG -- a cleaner and more efficient fuel for long-haul trucking.
Each UGEL station has a scalable capacity of 50 tonnes, capable of refuelling up to 600 LNG trucks monthly. Each station can annually reduce up to 66,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions, collectively decreasing one million tonnes of CO₂.
To maintain uninterrupted operations, UGEL has partnered with IOCL, GAIL, HPCL, and other leading LNG suppliers, ensuring access to all major LNG terminals in India for consistent fuel supply and enabling seamless scalability.
