Los Angeles, Dec 22 (NationPress) Hollywood actor Alec Baldwin has candidly shared his battle with suicidal thoughts following the tragic shooting incident on the set of ‘Rust’.
The 67-year-old actor was handling a prop gun during the filming of the Western in October 2021 when it accidentally discharged, resulting in the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and injuring director Joel Souza. Baldwin found himself ensnared in a legal turmoil as he faced manslaughter charges related to the incident, as reported by Female First UK.
Although the charges against Baldwin were dropped twice and the case has been resolved, he confessed that the immense pressure made him feel as though he wished to end his life.
During a guest appearance on the Dopey: On the Dark Comedy of Drug Addiction podcast, Baldwin expressed, “When you reach that moment where you think, 'I don’t want to wake up another day, I’m going to go,’ it’s profoundly unsettling to discuss. The act of contemplating suicide and actually going through with it are two vastly different experiences.”
He elaborated, “Many individuals, countless people, entertain thoughts of ending their lives, yet very few act on it. I remember lying in bed, thinking: 'Oh God, I can't face another day. It's the same routine over and over. I just can't do this anymore.' But somehow, I found the strength to hold on for one more day.”
As reported by Female First UK, Baldwin expressed deep concern over the impact of the tragedy on his wife, Hilaria, and their children, believing it has “taken 10 years” off his lifespan.
He stated, “The individuals I was most worried about, the ones who suffered the most, were my wife and children. They witnessed me in a corner, utterly immobilized. I want to avoid dwelling on this, but it was excruciating for my family, my siblings, and my colleagues. It shattered every nerve in my being—spiritually, financially, professionally, and personally. If I were to share the toll this has taken on my health since October 21, 2021, you'd see it has aged me by a decade.”
This follows Baldwin's wife Hilaria revealing that he was diagnosed with PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) after the incident.
