Los Angeles, June 9 (NationPress) In light of the upcoming TV show reboot of ‘Clueless’, actress Alicia Silverstone admitted she never anticipated revisiting her iconic character from the 1995 film.
The 48-year-old star gained widespread recognition for her role as the privileged teenager Cher Horowitz in “Clueless”. She revealed back in April that she would be reprising this role for a new TV series, and it was her appearance as Cher in Rakuten's 2023 Super Bowl commercial that reignited her enthusiasm for the character.
When asked if she believed she would ever embody Cher again, she told People magazine: “I didn’t. And then I did it for the Super Bowl, yeah, and it was so much fun. We did it really at the Super Bowl.”
However, Silverstone stated that she could disclose “nothing” regarding the reboot or its narrative details, according to reports from femalefirst.co.uk.
Reflecting on her son Bear, who is now 14, Silverstone recounted his first viewing of the movie at the age of five. Although he “didn’t know what was going on,” the film elicited more kisses between them.
She recalled: “I remember when my son was five, when he first saw it. And the only reason I would allow that, because I don’t think it’s appropriate for 5 year olds, is because it was on that big screen that we saw it at the cemetery. He didn’t know what was going on.”
“The only thing he took away was the kiss at the end. He started kissing me more. It was so sweet. And I think he liked it. And then he's liked it all along. I think he really likes this film.”
The new Clueless reboot is set to be penned by the creators of ‘Gossip Girl’, Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, alongside Jordan Weiss.
A previous television adaptation of this story aired in the 1990s, featuring Rachel Blanchard as Cher for three seasons from 1996 to 1999.
Clueless, a coming-of-age teen comedy directed by Amy Heckerling, is a loose adaptation of Jane Austen's 1815 novel Emma.
The plot follows a beautiful, affluent, and popular high school student who aims to perform “good deeds.” She befriends a newcomer, decides to give her a makeover, plays matchmaker for her teachers, and reflects on her own life.
Heckerling conducted research at Beverly Hills High School to grasp how 1990s teenagers communicated and learned various slang terms from them. The film has since garnered a cult following and maintains a lasting legacy, having inspired a spin-off television series and a collection of books.
