Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan has offered a rare and candid glimpse into his domestic life, revealing on an upcoming episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati Season 18 that he personally handles all household chores when the staff is away — and has a time-tested strategy to avoid being scolded by wife Jaya Bachchan when he returns home late from shoots.

The Late-Night Trick That Keeps the Peace

The conversation was sparked by contestant Preetiraj, who turned the tables on the host by asking whether Jaya scolds him for coming home late. Big B's answer was both practical and endearing. He explained that he wakes up each morning and sends an advance message to a family group chat — with folded hands — alerting everyone that he has a shoot and will be delayed, so they should not wait for dinner.

'Namaskar, hath jodhke fir likhte aaj humara shooting hain idhar-udhar toh aaj der se aaunga toh khane-vaane ka intezaar mat karna,' he said, adding that forewarning the family is what saves him from a scolding. He acknowledged, however, that on the rare occasion he forgets to inform them, Jaya simply has her dinner and goes to sleep — and the questions come the next morning.

Household Chores: Big B Takes Charge

When asked whether he steps in to manage the home when domestic staff are absent, Amitabh did not hesitate. 'Chaar ho, ya aath ho, ya das ho, staff ghar pe nahi hota toh saara kaam main heen karta hoon,' he said — whether the household has four, eight, or ten people, he handles all the cleaning and upkeep himself.

Cooking, however, is where he draws the line. He admitted he does not know how to cook, so the household either orders food from outside or he turns to Jaya with a request: 'Deviji, you make something for us.' According to him, that simple request transforms her — she becomes excited, prepares a variety of dishes, and eagerly asks for his feedback on each one.

He revealed that he has given up eating regular kheer, so Jaya recently made him a mango kheer instead.
