Actress Anandhi has publicly expressed disappointment after her scene alongside Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay was edited out of his final film, 'Jana Nayagan', which released in theatres on Thursday, 24 July. The actress, known for her work across television serials and films, described the cut as a personal blow — one she says she did not see coming.

What Anandhi Said

In a video posted to her Instagram page, Anandhi spoke candidly in Tamil about her feelings. 'Actually, I act in several films and a lot of it is edited away. However, I have never been sad or regretted it. But, I feel bad that the scene I had acted in Jana Nayagan got edited,' she said.

She explained that 'Jana Nayagan' held particular significance for her — it was the first project she committed to during her acting comeback, and she had waited one-and-a-half years for its release. 'That too, a combination with sir (Vijay),' she added, referring to the Chief Minister by the respectful title she has long used for him.

A Lifelong Dream, Left on the Cutting Room Floor

Anandhi went further, revealing that acting alongside Vijay was the very reason she entered the film industry. 'The reason I got into acting itself was because I wanted to act with sir. It was my dream,' she said, her tone described by observers as visibly dejected.

She still urged audiences to watch the film, calling it 'super' and highlighting its theme of women empowerment. But the personal loss was evident: 'I actually went very happily to the theatre, expecting to watch my scene with Thalapathy Vijay. But did not expect this. Feel so unlucky,' she said.

With Vijay having transitioned to full-time politics as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, 'Jana Nayagan' is widely understood to be his last acting project. Anandhi acknowledged the finality of the situation: 'If he acts again, I could try and act with him. But this is his last film.'

The Troubled Path to Release

Directed by H Vinoth, 'Jana Nayagan' had a prolonged and contested journey to screens. Originally slated for a Pongal release in January 2025, the film was delayed after being referred to a Revising Committee under Rule 24 of the Cinematograph (Certification) Rules following its submission to the Censor Board in December of the previous year. Clearance came only recently, allowing the film to finally release on 24 July.

The prolonged certification process had already generated significant public interest, given Vijay's dual status as a major film star and an active political figure.

'Jana Nayagan' features a high-profile ensemble cast including Vijay, Bobby Deol, Pooja Hegde, Mamitha Baiju, Prakash Raj, and Gautham Vasudev Menon.
