The 78th edition of this film festival is scheduled to occur in the picturesque French city from May 13 to 24, according to reports from Variety.

This year's Cannes, often referred to as the inaugural true post-strike festival, is anticipated to host a significant number of renowned U.S. filmmakers, including Spike Lee with 'Highest 2 Lowest', Richard Linklater with 'Nouvelle Vague', Kelly Reichardt with 'The Mastermind', Ari Aster with 'Eddington', and Wes Anderson with 'The Phoenician Scheme'.

According to Variety, the line-up may also include several actors making their directorial debuts, such as Scarlett Johansson with 'Eleanor the Great' and Harris Dickinson with 'Urchin'.

The previous year's festival was a standout, with Palme d'Or winner 'Anora' eventually winning the Oscar for best picture, while 'Emilia Perez', 'The Substance', and 'Flow' became strong contenders for awards.

The 2025 event is already promising to be a glamorous affair with a substantial Hollywood presence, and undoubtedly, plenty of stars. Earlier this week, it was confirmed that Tom Cruise will return to the Croisette with 'Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning', three years after the dazzling premiere of 'Top Gun: Maverick'.

Thierry Fremaux, the artistic director and general delegate, who is co-hosting the press conference in Paris with Iris Knobloch, disclosed that the festival received a record of 2,909 submissions. Typically, additional films are included after the press conference across various sections, including those in competition, and this year may see an increase in this regard.

As previously announced, Juliette Binoche will lead the jury, while Robert De Niro will be honored with this year's honorary Palme d'Or.
