The event will be held at the Royal Festival Hall at the Southbank Centre in London, with simultaneous showings at various locations throughout the U.K.
According to Variety, Craig reprises his role as the iconic detective in what is touted as his most perilous case yet, delving into a fresh murder mystery in a secretive location.
The star-studded cast includes Josh O’Connor, Glenn Close, Josh Brolin, Mila Kunis, Jeremy Renner, Kerry Washington, Andrew Scott, Cailee Spaeny, Daryl McCormack, and Thomas Haden Church.
This continues the tradition of high-profile collaborations between the festival and the beloved franchise, following the ‘Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery’ which concluded the 66th edition in 2022, and the original ‘Knives Out’ that premiered as the Amex Gala in 2019.
“We are thrilled to open the BFI London Film Festival with ‘Wake Up Dead Man’,” stated Johnson, who took on the roles of writer, director, and producer for the film. “London is the birthplace of the golden age of detective fiction, and it’s exhilarating to return.”
The film is crafted by Johnson through his T-Street production company, in collaboration with Ram Bergman.
“At this 69th edition of the BFI London Film Festival, we invite audiences to prepare their spyglass as we embark on another brilliantly entertaining mystery from director Rian Johnson,” expressed Kristy Matheson, director of the BFI London Film Festival. “With a cast led by Daniel Craig and Josh O’Connor, the film showcases remarkable British and international talent both in front of and behind the camera, bringing a delightful energy that will keep audiences captivated until the very end.”
