Charlie Puth Opens Up About His New Album Journey
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Los Angeles, March 28 (NationPress) The talented singer-songwriter Charlie Puth is currently quite busy. In October, he unveiled the Phil Collins-inspired 'Changes', which serves as the delightful initial offering from his upcoming fourth album 'Whatever’s Clever'.
Puth followed this release with two eight-show residencies at the Blue Note in both Los Angeles and New York, culminating in a significant performance of the National Anthem at last month’s Super Bowl, according to a report by Variety.
During this hectic period, he also dropped several follow-up singles, including “Cry” featuring Kenny G and “Home” with Hikaru Utada. It’s quite poetic that just three days prior to the release of 'Whatever’s Clever', he announced the arrival of his first child with his wife, Brooke.
As reported by Variety, Puth, 34, seizes any opportunity to sneak in his exercise. In early March, he joined a Zoom call while his camera was positioned atop a walking treadmill.
He remarked, “I saw my friend who used to run this label had a slow treadmill. It was like at a stand-up desk. I was always very jealous of that.”
As he discussed the album, his head bobbing with each step, it became evident that free time is increasingly scarce. The last time he truly had the luxury of time was while working on 'Whatever’s Clever', a project he describes as “yacht rock 2026”, yet it encompasses a variety of genres including sultry R&B, city pop, and gospel. He estimates that he last had this kind of time back in 2006.
“I didn’t have the luxury of time on the last three albums. We always had a song out for the masses that was ‘doing well,’ and then I had to play catch-up. Almost do reverse artistry. I was satisfied with the results, and I’ll perform those songs for the rest of my life. But this is the first time that I have had just a few months to sit and tell the truth,” he concluded.
