Los Angeles, Sep 24 (NationPress) Singer-songwriter Charlie Puth embraces a traditional approach to songwriting. The artist behind ‘We Don’t Talk Anymore’ has disclosed that he prefers to handwrite his lyrics using a Bic pen, claiming it allows him to visualize his songs in vivid colors.
The 33-year-old pop sensation explained that he never inputs his lyrics on a mobile device or computer, opting instead for a colorful biro to accentuate specific words and phrases, imbuing them with significance, according to ‘Female First UK’.
He shared with The Hollywood Reporter, "I handwrite lyrics. I never type them on my phone or a computer. It just feels like the song isn’t a song if I type it in - it needs my personality. It’s just a mental thing. Bic produces a product that I literally use every day of my life to create music: the 4-Color Pen. The different colors activate various parts of my musical mind. So, I take it on tour and on airplanes.”
Charlie elaborated, “I carry it everywhere I go. If I dislike a lyric, I use red to cross it out. Red is bad. Green is my favorite color. Green means go. That usually indicates a good lyric.”
According to ‘Female First UK’, he also mentioned that he travels with pens and notebooks, along with a keyboard, which he utilizes to facilitate social interactions as well as songwriting.
Charlie added, "(I always travel with) several notebooks and pens. I must have a small keyboard backstage because at times, I find it hard to communicate. If I need to meet a few people before going on stage, I’ll sit behind the keyboard and play as I talk, making it easier for the words to flow. It genuinely assists me in conversing better. I’m not sure what’s wrong with me.”
He concluded by revealing that he has been diligently crafting new material and intends to unveil new music “soon”.
He stated, "I’m enthusiastic about music in general. I can’t disclose when, but I do plan on releasing music soon. When it drops, I believe many questions will be resolved. There will be numerous topics I haven’t yet explored in song. My life is significantly different now than it was 10 years ago when ‘One Call Away’ or ‘See You Again’ came out, so there are things to express. I’m continually inspired by my environment, both musically and beyond, and I hope to continue this journey for the rest of my life.”
