Mumbai, June 24 (NationPress) Actress Delnaaz Irani shared her thoughts on the shifting dynamics of the television industry and why audience loyalty is no longer as strong as it once was.
In an interview with IANS, she provided insightful commentary on how the emergence of OTT platforms, evolving viewing habits, and a plethora of content options have reshaped audience engagement with TV today. Renowned for her extensive television work, Irani discussed the industry's transformation over the years. She addressed the widespread belief that TV shows lack the longevity they used to have, asserting that the quality of content has not necessarily diminished.
Irani stressed that every show has its unique journey and that content creators are still diligently crafting meaningful stories for viewers. However, she recognized the dramatic changes in the media landscape. Reflecting on the ‘90s and early 2000s, Delnaaz noted that the television industry then had far fewer channels and limited platforms.
“Every show has its own journey. Content creators are working hard, and good content is still being made. But the media landscape has changed drastically. Back in the '90s and early 2000s, we didn’t have this many channels or platforms. Today, OTT has taken over in a big way. There’s so much variety that audience loyalty is scattered. The TRP game has shifted. It’s not about quality alone—luck and timing play a big role,” she explained.
Delnaaz Irani also reminisced about her time on the beloved historical comedy "Akbar Birbal." She described it as one of the most significant projects of her career, as she was involved in the popular series for nearly three years. The Kal Ho Naa Ho actress expressed immense pride in revisiting her role for the stage adaptation, considering it a full-circle moment.
Discussing the challenges of live comedy, Delnaaz revealed that the stage has always been her home. With her roots in theatre, she finds joy in performing comedy in front of live audiences. “Comedy has always come naturally to me. I started my journey from the stage; that's where my acting roots are. The stage was my school, my training ground. So, for me, doing comedy on stage doesn’t feel like work—it feels like play, like I’m just having fun,” she stated.
