Los Angeles, June 26 (NationPress) The acclaimed filmmaker Denis Villeneuve is set to take the reins as director for the next installment of the James Bond franchise at Amazon MGM Studios.
As previously revealed, producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman will collaborate with Tanya Lapointe serving as executive producer.
“Some of my earliest movie-going memories are tied to 007. Watching James Bond films with my father, starting from ‘Dr. No’ featuring Sean Connery, ignited my lifelong passion for Bond. I’m an ardent fan. This franchise is sacred to me,” Villeneuve expressed.
He further stated that he aims to respect the franchise's rich tradition while paving the way for countless new adventures to come, as reported by variety.com.
“This is a tremendous responsibility, but it’s also incredibly thrilling for me and an immense honor. Amy, David, and I are genuinely excited to resurrect Bond on the big screen. I extend my gratitude to Amazon MGM Studios for their confidence in us,” he said.
Mike Hopkins, the head of Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios, commented, “We are privileged that Denis has chosen to direct the next chapter of James Bond. He is a cinematic genius, and his filmography is a testament to that.”
“From ‘Blade Runner 2049’ to ‘Arrival’ and the ‘Dune’ films, he has created captivating worlds, stunning visuals, intricate characters, and—most importantly—the immersive storytelling that audiences crave in theaters. James Bond is now in the hands of one of the finest filmmakers of our time, and we eagerly anticipate embarking on 007’s next journey,” he added.
Pascal and Heyman remarked, “Denis Villeneuve has cherished James Bond films since childhood. It has always been his aspiration to direct this film, and now it’s ours as well. We are fortunate to collaborate with this extraordinary filmmaker.”
Villeneuve, an award-winning, Oscar-nominated French-Canadian director, recently directed “Dune” and “Dune: Part Two,” with a third film, “Dune: Messiah,” slated for a 2026 release.
Pascal will oversee production through Pascal Pictures, while Heyman will produce via Heyday Films.
The duo was formally appointed in March, following a groundbreaking agreement between Amazon MGM and longstanding producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, which transferred creative control of the Bond franchise to the streaming powerhouse.
During CinemaCon in April, Amazon executives Courtenay Valenti and Sue Kroll hinted that Pascal and Heyman were diligently crafting a “fresh, exhilarating new chapter” for the franchise.
“We are dedicated to honoring the legacy of this iconic character,” said Valenti and Kroll during their presentation at Caesars Palace.
“They are both in London getting things underway and couldn’t attend tonight, but we wanted to express our gratitude for what we know will be an incredible partnership.”
