Chennai, Feb 28 (NationPress) Revealing that he has finally fulfilled his long-held aspiration of performing at Thiruvaiyaaru, the sacred birthplace of Saint Thyagaraja, renowned Indian music director Devi Sri Prasad has encouraged his fans to also pursue their long-cherished dreams.

On Friday, coinciding with the birthday of the late Mandolin Srinivas, a musical legend, Devi shared a video link on his X timeline, stating, “Happy Musical Birthday to the Greatest Guru... Maestro Mandolin U Shrinivas Anna. Here’s a video documenting a little musical journey of mine, dedicated to my Guru. Make Your Dreams Come True. Thiruvaiyaru-Thyagaraja Aradhana 2025.”

In the video, Devi expressed, “As you all know, I am a disciple of the legendary maestro Mandolin Srinivas Anna. I have been learning the mandolin from him for many years. My Anna always wished for me to perform at Thiruvaiyaaru, the birthplace of the great Swami Thyagaraja.

He further elaborated, “Thiruvaiyaaru is where the greatest musical legends from around the globe come to perform and seek the blessings of Swami Thyagaraja. They perform right before the temple of Thyagaraja Swami. This event occurs only in January during Swami Thyagaraja’s birthday. I could never fulfill this dream due to my schooling. I became a music composer even before completing my education, and life has always been hectic since then.”

“Every year, I thought about making this dream a reality. At the beginning of 2025, I planned to create a list of my unfulfilled dreams and this was my top priority,” he explained.

Emphasizing that he made a commitment to perform this year, Devi reached out to his close friend Mandolin U Rajesh, the younger brother of Mandolin Srinivas, to share his desire to play at Thiruvaiyaaru.

Recalling Rajesh's excitement upon hearing his request, Devi shared, “Rajesh replied, ‘Let’s do it, and I’ll help you make it happen.’”

“I want to sincerely thank Rajesh for taking time out of his busy schedule to assist me. I chose to play Marugelara O Raghava as it was my father's favorite Thyagaraja Kriti,” DSP noted, emphasizing that playing a Thyagaraja Keerthana on the mandolin is no easy feat without adequate practice.

“The mandolin is a challenging instrument; after so many years, it can be quite painful to play. Your fingers can burn and get cut. Even playing for a minute after such a long break causes significant discomfort. So, I began carrying my mandolin with me everywhere to condition my fingers,” he said.

“Finally, on January 15, I traveled to Thiruvaiyaaru with Mandolin Rajesh and Veena Rajesh Vaidya sir, and we performed together. I felt immensely blessed and happy that this dream was finally realized,” he concluded.

The acclaimed music director wrapped up the video by stating, “I am sharing this dream with all of you. Many of us have unfulfilled dreams and goals. Please make time for them. Trust me, the joy of accomplishing something that has been on hold for years is invaluable. Make your dreams come true.”
