Los Angeles, July 22 (NationPress) - Hollywood icon Adam Sandler is poised to resurrect the beloved franchise with the sequel to “Happy Gilmore” after a hiatus of almost 30 years, driven by fervent fan requests.
During his guest appearance on Good Morning America on July 21, Sandler announced the much-awaited follow-up to the 1996 hit comedy, revealing that fans have persistently inquired about a sequel for decades, according to reports from femalefirst.co.uk.
He expressed: “Whenever I strolled down the street, countless fans would ask, ‘Are you ever going to do Happy Gilmore 2?’ For 28 years, my response was, ‘What are you talking about? No.’ Then one day, I thought, ‘Maybe’... after all the inquiries, it just felt right.”
In Happy Gilmore 2, the 58-year-old actor and comedian will reprise his role as the brash, hockey-enthusiast golfer.
Sandler shared insights about the sequel's narrative, stating: “His life isn’t perfect at the beginning of the film. He’s a family man who is re-entering the golf scene.”
The cast features returning actors Ben Stiller, Christopher McDonald, and Julie Bowen, alongside newcomers including NFL star Travis Kelce, Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny, and various professional golfers.
When questioned about assembling such a diverse cast, Sandler remarked: “I’m not quite sure how it all came together. We wrote the material, and everyone graciously participated. They all did an amazing job.”
The actor added: “Each day, we’d have someone cool join us, and it was a great time.”
Christopher, reprising his role as the notorious Shooter McGavin, remarked earlier this year that Adam and Netflix had “exceeded expectations” with the sequel.
While speaking with People magazine, he stated: “What I admire about Adam Sandler is his big heart. He truly cares for people... and his recent work has been remarkable. I’m thrilled for him.”
When pressed for more plot details, Christopher mentioned he had signed a non-disclosure agreement, adding: “This is quite significant.”
Happy Gilmore 2 is set to debut on Netflix on July 25.
