In an exclusive interview with IANS during the launch of his new album, "Jaan Meri", Hariharan expressed that R. D. Burman possessed an inner child that set him apart from others.
He mentioned, "He had a child in him, and that was his special quality. He was incredibly simple and had a brilliance about him, evident in the way he crafted his phrases and compositions."
With a career spanning five decades, Hariharan noted that R. D. Burman's compositions are frequently used in fusion music due to their modern and forward-thinking nature.
"His work is the most integrated into fusion because of its adaptability. The compositions are so expansive and contemporary, they allow for creative exploration," he added.
Reflecting on past experiences, Hariharan shared that he often sang alongside Asha Bhosle, with Pancham Da (R. D. Burman) present during those sessions.
"Traveling with him was a learning experience, and he acted as a mentor for me," he concluded.
During the same conversation, Hariharan addressed the ongoing discussion regarding whether singers should perform at weddings.
He remarked, "I perform in all sorts of concerts and remain open-minded. However, I require decorum when I sing, and I ensure that I achieve this, allowing me to feel at peace."
He further added, "The purpose of singing is to spread joy, and if you can bring happiness, then having the right ambiance in any setting is perfectly fine."
