Should Singers Perform at Weddings? Hariharan Shares His Views
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mumbai, Feb 20 (NationPress) Renowned vocalist Hariharan has shared his thoughts on the current discourse surrounding whether artists should take the stage at weddings. He emphasized the need for decorum during his performances.
In an exclusive conversation with IANS, he stated that singing is meant to evoke joy, and as long as that is accomplished within a suitable atmosphere, he is content.
He articulated, "Let me clarify something. I perform at various types of concerts. I am quite flexible. However, I require decorum when I sing, and I ensure that it is present, which brings me peace."
"Why do you sing?" he further explained, "To spread happiness, and if you can achieve that joy in any environment that maintains proper ambiance, then it's acceptable."
Previous to Hariharan's remarks, other artists had voiced their opinions on the matter of being invited to perform at weddings.
To recall, singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya previously engaged in a heated exchange with Neha Kakkar regarding the implications of wedding performances.
Abhijeet expressed that singing at weddings diminishes a singer's stature.
"When you receive any payment and sing at a wedding, it lowers your status. I have my dignity; I can simply refuse. No force in the world can purchase you," he stated.
Conversely, Neha argued that no job is too big or too small.
"You should earn from your hard work, and work can be acquired in any form. Singing at weddings is not a negative thing. Your fans invite you because they appreciate you. No work is insignificant," she remarked.
